Welcome to the Blue Canoe

It was over a decade ago that Dustin walked into Chili’s while I was bartending to meet me. We were set up blindly by a mutual friend and had connected a little bit through Facebook and texting … but coming into Chili’s was the first time we met in person.

I knew he was going to come in, just wasn’t sure what time. The night was pure chaos. Busy, busy, busy! When he walked in it looked like the lounge area had been hit by a tornado. It was towards the end of the night, I hadn’t had the chance to clean all of the tables and knowing he worked in the restaurant business himself I was embarrassed about the mess he was walking into.

Luckily the mess didn’t phase him one bit and we hit off. We had our first official date at a Yankees Game where he picked me up in his car that had red leather interior. It was the first time I had ever seen anything like it. We had a blast together at the game chatting it up as we cheered on the Yankees. He surprised me with a kiss outside the bathroom and the rest is history.

Here we are many years later and as first time parents. At the end of a long day we usually ask each other what we want to watch, decide on something after much deliberation, hit play and then ignore what we choose and each other as we mindlessly scroll on our phones. We know we can’t be the only couple who does this, but we also know we needed some time for connection.

What better way to connect than turning on the microphones and having a conversation that we share with the world! Sounds strange, I know but it works for us. We tested it out when Dustin was a guest on my podcast, Soul Circle. It was a blast to do together and pushed us to actually have a conversation instead of mindlessly scroll.

Now here we are, sharing our conversations with you. The Blue Canoe is our little corner of the podcasting world where we invite you in behind the scenes to our life. We talk about it all and enjoy the opportunity to step away from the screen and get back to connecting. Grab your paddle on listen in!
